Tropico 5

This is a great game but the game editor or who ever wrote the details in the more info panel it promoting false advertising. The advertising states that this game is cooperative but I cannot find anywhere in the game menu stating that I can play with anothr person on the same desktop. The whole reason I got this game was to be able to play it with my wife. So I wasted $40.00. Other than that My rating would have been a Five. It is s well put together game.

*Do Not Buy* Irresponsive Support Staff, no App Store updates, and lack DLC.

I almost never write reviews, but this product should not be on App Store, basically echoing one of the earlier reviewer’s sentiment: do not buy it here. The game itself was okay, with some critical limitations that make it less playable and enjoyable, as of version 1.0.7 (even though, in game Credits section show 1.0.6). Supposedly, the developer released an update more than a month ago, 1.0.8, but they never updated the App Store. Also, there has never been any downlodable content available for App Store version. I did register on the developer’s (Kalypso) support forum, and politely asked for release plan on App Store (a cordial 2-sentence inquiry), They banned/deleted that account almost immediately. That action was rather unpleasant. If you really have to buy this game, which I am somewhat neutral about, buy it on Steam.

DLC

i noticed that there is quite a bit of DLC for tropico 5 but it doesnt seem to be avaliable on the mac app store version. you can get it on steam and macgamestore app with availiable DLC. other than that great game series i’ve been a fan since the first game!

A Great City Builder Alternative

Prior to playing Tropico 5 I had been a big fan of Tropico 3 as well as your traditional city builders. Tropico is different than a city builder game though. You are obviously the ruler of an island and your goal is very open ended. You don’t need to worry about traffic fire stations. It’s a very macro approach; which is what makes Tropico very appealing. Tropico 3 was great, but always felt like it was missing something. Tropico 5 seems to fill the gaps of Tropico 3. There’s a lot of depth to the game and the different eras you can play through help give it even more diversity. The game does have some performance issues and a drop in framerate when first loading the island. But once everything has loaded, the framerate picks back up and it’s a smooth experience. Overall, Tropico 5 comes highly recommended if you are looking for a city builder alternative or if you are a fan of the Tropico franchise.

New DLC doesn’t work

I love Tropico but the lack of DLC has been a problem. I downloaded the new one and it keeps downloading and then ruining the game. I get a message that says “Tropico 5 is damaged, please reinstall from the App Store”. I have done it twice now. So sick of things not working correctly.

Hostile Takeover DLC Doesn’t Work

As the title of this review reveals, the Hostile Takeover DLC doesn’t work. So this is what you get when you buy this game on the APP store: you get a barebones version of Tropico, and then when you finally spend your heard earned money on an expansion pack to get more content, it doesn’t work. If you buy this same game elsewhere there are also many other downloads that you can’t get on the APP store. I wonder if they actually work?

Played for 2 days, pretty good experience so far

As a Tropico 3 veteran, I have skipped Tropico 4 an decided that it would be the perfect time to continue with Tropico 5. I really love the game because it has become much clearer in what is happening. Tropico 5 has become more independant from player’s mistakes but at the same time, it has become easier to investigate the problem and come up with a solution. One thing that I’m very dissapointed with, is the additional in-game purchases, I think $50 dollars is more than enought for a player to pay and have all the content built in. I also miss the soundtracks from Tropico 3, they had more voices wereas the sountracks in Tropico 3 are instumental only.

Was Nervous to Spend $40… Great Game!

I never write reviews. I was nervous to spend $40 on this game because of the 3.5 stars from other reviewers. I played Tropico 1 at least 10 years ago. Got into Tropic 3 a few years ago and played from time to time. Purchased this game recently and am blown away. I believe that this is the best Tropico yet. For anyone who is a Tropico fan or city builder fan this game is great. It seems more challenging than Tropico 1 or 3 but I am still new to it. Highly recommend this game to anyone who is considering buying it. -DC

Downloadable content not loading

VERY UPSETTING

Love this game, but fix the bugs!

I’m a big Tropico fan, but none of my DLC will download. I even tried a fresh reinstall.

DLC NOT Working!

The DLC is not working and the tropico 5 support email bounces back as unknown. I re-installed, did a restore purchases, nothing I bought show up. I do like the game, but for this reason I give it 1 star. Don’t waste your money on in app pruchases till they fixed it.

Worth the money IMO

I don’t write reviews but this game is good. As somebody who has been looking for the best strategy games for years now, this game is pleasing. It definitely an upgrade from older versions. It just doesn’t give you enough to do though. The campaign mode is pretty narrow and there aren’t many different paths to take. However, I typically dislike sandbox modes but the one in this game is fantastic. Your tyrant can also have his/her own “family” and you can expand it like that. Very cool aspect as well.
