Doesn’t work at all

I’ve got a new powerful iMac, but the game does not start at all. It just don’t work, absolutely.

Great game!

This game is really fun, but gets really hard really quick. The game is so massive its really tough to figure out what everything does. Its really fun to design an island in a way that makes the citizens happy, and turns a profit. The graphics are amazing, its so realistic. There is no visual indication that a building has been upgraded, this makes it easy to forget to upgrade a building. Other than that the game is really well done, but drains the battery really fast. I have not finished the campaign yet, but so far Its a half decent story line. I particularly enjoyed sandbox mode, where your free to do whatever you want with no interuptions.

Crashes randomly,

Just crashes randomly, any help how to fix it ? Im playing on Mac Book. (early 2011)

Update Erased all my DLC and wants me to pay again !!!

just get this off steam its probably cheaper too

Very slow

Not much different than previous releases. It causes some graffic errors which makes scrolling and panning in the game very slow even in the low setting. Could only played twice because of the slowness.

DLC NOT downloading!

Goes to 80% then nothing. Not sure the payment is even going through. What a shame for such a franchise to take this long to fix a silly issue. Do you want our money or not?!

DLC not downloading

When I first bought the DLC it worked, but after I stopped playing the game and returned to it later, my saved games would not open because it said there was DLC not installed… Have been trying since then to install it but it won’t work. Download goes to 80% and then the download stops. Very dissapointing as the DLC was very expensive.

First Time Tropico Player

Needed a break from Simcity, so I given this a try…. Controls are a bit freakie, but getting use to it, only in the early stages, thought the graphics would be a lot better, amusing so far!

Game looks great, but...

I love the way this game looks but I became stuck immediately. Once I start a road, it won’t let me cancel the road building process so I have to shut down the game. I’ve tried right clicking (the way it worked in Tropico 3 and 4), changing hot keys, and even checked around the internet to find that this problem exists for many. If anyone has a remedy, please let me know. The game looks fun and I want to play! :( Thanks!

Remedy to NeilPerk

I got stuck on that for a long time, but then I figured out that u have to right click twice. One time to get rid of the road u are currently building and another time to get rid of the road building process. Anyway, this game is awesome and I definately recomend to buy it. Worth the 40 bucks.

Solid Game

Solid game IMO. The campaign is a great way to learn the game but I’m looking forward to some hard sandbox builds to try out differnent strategies. The original application icon was much better than the two dudes standing back to back. Not sure why they included a game icon change in the small game patch today.

How to start?

This looks like an interesting game, but I have no idea how to start. The first tutorial is on camera controls, but clearly, with a MacBook Pro and trackpad, the controls listed do not apply. The tutorial seems to quit or hang after the third screen of the tutorial (defining a task). So I just started to play the campaign, but I’m not getting the hang of this at all - what are all the arrows on the map? Clicking on many of them don’t help. I tried to build a road, but could not figure out how to finish building it - how to release the cursor from more road! Anyway, I’d love to get into this but have no idea how to start. I downloaded the manual from the company, but this clearly was not written for Mac players. Why don’t they release an addendum for the Mac, if only to explain how to control this with a Mac keyboard and no right button (the option-click or command-click doesn’t seem to work)? Addendum: I wrote the Kalypso support group. They replied (10/1/14): "For now, please use a mouse. Our developers are currently working on the issue, as right click seems to be a problem for the macbook pro. (Also needed to stop building roads.)” So I’ll stop using the game until this is solved. No way to stop building roads!

Love it, but kills my macbook air

I have a i7 with 8b ram intel 5000 but its laggy and feels like my fans are going to come out of my mac:(

Great Game

I haven’t played Tropico in ten years since Tropico came out. Just wish I could use cheats on the mac version.

Add more cheats and some more content

Add cheats that allow you to prompt a rebel attack (even if there are no active rebels on the island), and instant construction. If you can add some more content, can you add a fire station (similar to the one in tropico 4), condominiums, prisons, and misc items like palm trees and boxes or barbed wire etc, and a sandbox mode in which you can create what you want your island shape to look like, kind’ve like a map editor, plus, I enjoyed how in tropico 4 you could control your character, if you could add that too. Overall, great purchase, fantastic combat system and graphics, never gets old.

Fantastic Addition but Could Use More Content

I’ve loved the beautiful scenery and self-aware satire of the Tropico series since Tropico 3, and I must say that this edition is the most playable and entertaining yet. The campaign story allows you to spend time building up your islands over the course of several challanges and strategy adjustments. However, once you finish the entertaining but short campaign, all that’s left to do is play in sandbox mode which can become monotonous after a while. Please add more content! Otherwise, this is a fantastic game and I would reccomend it to anybody!

Buy It Somewhere Else

Great game…BUT don’t buy it from the Mac App Store if you want to buy expansions. They don’t offer them here and without the product key (which you don’t get on the Mac App Store) you’ll have to buy it again from another site. I really wish they’d get the expansions on here. VERY frustrating!

Buy Tropico on Steam

It’s a pretty good game but unless you buy it on Steam (or someplace else), you’ll be sandboxed in (e.g. No mods, not even save file access) Take my advice, the app store kind of ruined it for me, but buy it somewhere else. The only reason I ever buy on the app store is becasue I have credit.

Awesome update for a fun franchise - but big Apple fail on DLC

So, this is more directed at Apple - but this is the second time I took a risk and purchased a game via the Mac App Store instead of Steam and once again - the overal support and availability of downloadble content is nowhere to be found on the App Store, however, there are now (3) new campaigns you can add/play via Steam. And by the way, shame on you game developer for releasing an ultra light product and then expecting consumers to fork over $5 for every new strategy. You should learn from EA, Ubisoft, and other dying gaming companies that attempt to continously overcharge for every last content update.

serious flaws

I have played Tropico since the original. #5 has some serious flaws. Let’s begin with the insanity of the rebels/uprisings. I have been overthrown every single time I have played. I have had over 80 approval ratings and there’s not even a dozen rebels out of 500-1500 population. The rebels in this version are insane no matter what you do. Kalypso needs to fix this. Next, there are some serious flaws in the import system and the teamster functioning. You cannot turn off some imports and the old feature from #4 to import for each building is gone. The teamsters, no clue what they’re doing. These are just the two big issues that make this game unplayable. I love Tropico but I have given up. The import/teamster issues are a huge pain but rebel stuff makes it impossible to play. Kalypso should look into the Mods that some people have made for windows and adopt these. These include turning teamsters into storage and each building handling their own shipments, just to name a couple things. Kalypso should also add the missing stuff from #4. DLC needs to be added to the store here
